American orchestras have a diversity challenge. Join us for a discussion about how we can work together to create lasting change.
About this Event
Musicians of Black, Latinx, Asian, American Indian, and other non-white backgrounds constitute less than 15% of the orchestra music population. Of that 15%, Latinx musicians make up just 2.5%, and Black musicians only 1.8%.
Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative (CMPI) is dedicated to changing the status quo by providing students from underrepresented backgrounds with the resources, opportunities, and knowledge needed to successfully audition into the nation’s top music schools and conservatories.
While CMPI and similar initiatives in other major cities across the nation are helping to keep musicians of color on the training pathway, it’s a long road to a seat in a professional orchestra. What can we as individuals do to support these musicians and ensure lasting change?
In this webinar discussing the "why" and the "how" of diversifying the field of classical music, we'll hear from some of the visionary leaders who have helped to shape CMPI's success.
