Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Scott Speck, host of “Hear it Together,” welcomes beloved Chicago Philharmonic violin virtuoso David Perry as his special guest host.
The pair will provide historical context and perspective about David Perry + Friends, a special chamber concert featuring two influential black composers, presented in collaboration with Midsummer’s Music.
George Walker and Florence Price made their mark in classical music by enhancing Western traditions and embracing their African roots. They blurred the lines of music genres, creating groundbreaking works for orchestra and chamber ensembles. In the words of the program’s original notes, these composers “need to be heard in these strenuous times, as they remind us of the power and beauty of universal feelings expressed in music.”
Digital access to the recording of the live event will be available for 24-hours; please allow for approximately 2 hours post-event to receive your access to account for video rendering and uploading time.
Program:
- George Walker: Molto Adagio from String Quartet No. 1
- Florence Price: Quintet in A Minor for Piano and Strings
